School Uniform Policy
1. Rationale
The school uniform plays an important role in promoting a sense of belonging, equality, and school identity among all pupils. This policy aims to ensure that pupils are dressed safely, comfortably, and appropriately for all aspects of school life, while also respecting family choice and pupil voice.
This policy has been developed following consultation with all members of the school community, including pupils, parents/guardians, staff, and the Board of Management.
2. Aims of the Policy
The aims of this policy are to:
- Promote equality and inclusivity among pupils
- Support pupil comfort, wellbeing, and readiness for learning
- Ensure health and safety standards are maintained
- Provide clarity and consistency regarding uniform expectations
- Reflect the views and feedback of the wider school community
3. Official School Uniform
3.1 Official School Tracksuit (Primary Uniform)
The official school tracksuit and corresponding school t-shirt constitute the official school uniform and are to be worn by all pupils as the standard uniform for school.
The tracksuit:
- Supports active learning and play
- Is suitable for PE, outdoor activity, and daily school routines
- Promotes comfort and equality for all pupils
3.2 Formal School Uniform (OPTIONAL)
The formal uniform is optional and may be worn by pupils if they so wish.
The formal uniform consists of:
- Crested wine/maroon school jumper
- Grey trousers or grey skirt
- Grey shirt
- Wine and grey striped school tie
No pupil is required to wear the formal uniform, and choosing not to do so will never result in disadvantage or exclusion from any school activity. However, tracksuits must be worn on PE days wherever possible. This option will be reviewed after one year of the new policy being enacted.
4. Summer Uniform
During periods of warm weather, pupils may wear the official school shorts and official school t-shirt as an alternative to the full tracksuit.
5. Jewellery and Personal Appearance
For health and safety reasons:
- Jewellery is not permitted during the school day
- The only exceptions are
- one pair of small stud earrings
- a basic watch (please ref AT policy as any form of smart watches are not permitted)
- Appropriate footwear must always be worn e.g. sandals, wellies, etc. are not considered appropriate for all day wear under health and safety guidelines
This applies to all school activities, including PE and outdoor play.
Parents/guardians are asked to support the school by ensuring that pupils do not wear jewellery to school and always wear the correct footwear.
6. Equality and Inclusion
The school uniform policy is designed to:
- Be inclusive of all pupils
- Respect family circumstances and choice
- Avoid unnecessary financial burden
- Ensure no pupil is singled out based on appearance
Uniform items are intended to be practical, comfortable, and suitable for all children.
